Losing a tooth or teeth from a mishap, illness or from tooth decay can be devastating. It is hard to eat and even talk as you naturally always have when a tooth is missing. If you have a missing tooth or more than one tooth is damaged for any reason, you don’t have to suffer and feel embarrassed about your mouth and your smile.
Our office will complete a full examination, discuss the restorative options available, and treat the affected area of your mouth. The treatment plan may include dentures, partial dentures, or a bridge. The major difference is that the denture or partial denture is removable whereas a bridge is a permanent treatment for restoring your effected teeth, or tooth.
In cases of removable prosthesis (dentures or partial dentures), there is a multi-appointment process. We want to create proper fitting dentures and it starts with taking measurements and an impression of your mouth. We work with a local trusted partner for the fabrication of dentures and partial dentures and we restore your smile within a matter of 5 appointments taking a great deal of care to be precise with sizing, shape, color and fit.
If we determine that a bridge is necessary, the process is similar, but requires only 2 appointments. To create the bridge that will offer you comfort and restore your smile, we take measurements and an impression of your mouth. We work with our local trusted partner for exacting fabrication and affix the bridge during your second visit. The entire process is complete within 2-3 weeks.
Dentures are normally made of an acrylic material that is made to be used in the mouth.
Due to a series of appointments, it can take up to 6 weeks
Yes, you can eat with dentures, however, it may be a challenge to bite into an apple or eat corn on the cob, for example. We recommend that you make changes to these foods (such as removing the corn from the cobb) so that you can still enjoy your favorite foods.
It is not recommended that you keep dentures in your mouth 24 hours a day. By leaving them in 24 hours a day, you do not allow your tissue to receive any oxygen. By not allowing the tissue to "breathe" it causes bacteria to thrive. The bacteria can cause an overgrowth of yeast bacteria. This in turn causes a yeast infection. It is recommended that you take your dentures out for approximately 2-4 hours per day to avoid this.
